All the ideas on this page are oil on paper (apart from the watercolour self portrait on the left). I spend less time on them and find if I'm going around in circles on a canvas, looking at these might jolt an idea. I don't mean I would copy it on a larger scale, but a mark, a colour or a stroke might make me look at what I'm doing in a different way. These sketches, although less worked, I still try to resolve and make them work in their own right.
